Top Stories: Teen In Viral McKinney Pool Party Video Sues; Texas And Vaccination Debate
The top local stories this morning from KERA News:
The black teenage girl at the center of the viral video of a McKinney pool party in 2015 has filed a federal lawsuit against the city, the police department, and a former police officer.
A viral video captured former officer Eric Casebolt, who’s white, throwing then-15-year-old Dajerria Becton to the ground and pulling his gun on unarmed teenagers who had rushed to help her.
A grand jury last year decided not to indict Casebolt. Becton’s lawsuit seeks $5 million in damages.
In statements, the city of McKinney denied the allegations and says it’ll vigorously defend itself in court.

- The Dallas City Council today is expected to vote whether hold this year’s $800 million bond referendum in May or November. If the bond vote is delayed until the fall, the city will have to find other sources of money to fund $27 million in street repairs slated for this year.
